Trinity Athletic Union
The Sports clubs and societies, supported by Trinity University College Students’ Union are
co-ordinated through the Athletic Union and administered by a full time administrator, Ryan Evans.
This includes all British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and National League sport. Everything you ever wanted to know about our sports clubs can be found in the Hub, at the Students’ Union. Ryan can put you in touch with the officers of any club, or even help you set up your own. You can either call into the office (9am – 5pm) or phone on 01267 237794.
Trinity recruits a great deal of sporting talent every year and the Student and Athletic Unions aim to provide a quality service for our sports people. We fund the provision of training and provide the excellent sports facilities that you will find associated with Trinity.
Whilst we expect all of our students studying sport to represent the university, we do recognise success. Every year the Union organise the Colours Ball Awards evening. This function is regarded as one of the highlights of the University sporting calendar. The success of the 2008/2009 sporting year was celebrated at the Halliwell Centre, a fitting location to recognise the achievements of both Trinity teams and individuals. There are awards for excellence not just in performance but also administration and voluntary work, and are voted for by staff and students. All performers that season are individually congratulated, but the ultimate prize, new to 2009/10 is to become the Sports Personality of the Year, which will carry tremendous prestige within the university. This award has never been given to a student at Trinty University College so to become the inaugaral winner would be a huge feat.
Trinity has become a competitive challenger to the powerhouses in University sport, and we can this year boast being BUCS Western Conference Men’s Football Champions after a successful season.
How to join the AU Membership of a club or society is open to all students at Trinity, irrespective of the Course they are studying. We do not concentrate solely on providing sport for those who live on campus at Trinity or on Sports Courses, but all students are invited, and welcome, to join the Athletic Union Clubs and Societies. This year the AU Membership is £25.00 for Membership fees but includes full insurance for the year and allows each member to participate in as many clubs and societies as their diaries will let them!
If you only want to join a society, then the fee for 2009/10 is £5
For example; ‘Joe Bloggs’ last year had £32 expenditure (see Blue Column) but will only pay £25 this year (see Yellow Column) and will also receive the ‘Gold’ Category of Insurance for participating, free of charge!

The Athletic Union funds several clubs and societies, which includes paying BUCS fees and transport costs.
All clubs that Trinity offer are registered with BUCS competitions, but many also compete in National Leagues, a status which makes Trinity a forerunner in University sport. Information and contacts for all of these clubs can be obtained from Ryan in the Student Union building.
