Money

With living costs constantly rising and the economy in global crisis, it is common-place for students to experience some financial hardship. Historically students have not had great amounts of disposable income and the majority of students have to make little money go a long way.
Money issues can be a source of great concern and worry for many individuals but there are services available to help make times like these a little less stressful.

If you have money worries feel free to drop into the Union and speak to the Student President who will hopefully be able to offer some guidance and highlight the possible options available.

Our colleagues in Students Services offer a number of programmes to help in these cases.

Money Doctors

The University operates a debt advice service for students who experience difficulty in managing their money. Get in touch using the details below and they can help you create a weekly budget that will hopefully mean no unexpected surprises in the future!

Financial Contingency Fund

This is an additional source of income for any student who has taken out a Student Loan (if eligible) and is suffering financial hardship. An applicant also has to prove that she/he has exhausted their overdraft provision before an application can be considered.

Financial support is available to any student studying at least 50% of a full-time course. A student can apply for funding at any time during the course, and can re-apply if in financial difficulties. Usually, funds are not repayable. They are administered by the FCF Committee representing the Finance Department, Student Services and the Students Union. This Committee meets every three weeks during term-time.

Please contact Reception at Student Services for an Application Form and your Union representatives can help you complete the required documentation should you have any queries.
